We just launched textbooks on Ugenie.
Somehow, textbooks seem to fit in very well with a lot of things that we at Ugenie believe in.
1. People like buying them together - 3 to 6 of them at a time. Perfect candidates for our bundling algorithms.
2. Students buying textbooks are extremely price conscious, and we hope they will appreciate our real-time price comparison service.
Moreover we were able to provide a good amount of "value add" by allowing users to search for textbooks their university, department & courses.
We are hoping to get traction with most universities opening after the winter break & students would look to buy textbooks for the new semester.
We are trying a bunch of things from our side:
A marketing campaign - a free movie ticket on a purchase (yes conditions apply ;) )
A lucrative affiliates programme - to help us spread the word.
I seek feedback, support & hopefully a little time from you to help spread the word.

As a lot of you would know/ have realised, A good product needs a lot more to become a successful product.
And if you think this is a good product, (yes I am on bent knees here!), Please do help it gain visibility.

I like the way uGenie has evolved. I'm a believer of the transaction facilitation business model (you provide a service to bring buyers and sellers together, and keep a part of the transaction as finders' fees. Mobissimo is another great example).
Yo should try and evangelize the company more aggressively. Talk to folks like Om Malik @ gigaom.
Are there any plans of offering the platform as a service for other industries/verticals? (will be in bangalore next week; can we meet to discuss ?)

Yes there are plans to offer something like a service .. early days ... and we arent sure about a lot of things how it will eventually turn out ... but yes we are toying with som ideas.
I am out of town thursday onwards.
We could meet over lunch before that.
