I met a few good friends from school on orkut & was remembering my childhood days ..
And that's what inspired me to write this post.

So here's my life in a few lines ....

21st August 1980, born in Meera hospital Bani Park Jaipur. We stayed in Nehru Nagar for the 1st few years & then we moved to Bani Park. Lived very close to the Kadambari school & Avdhesh chacha's house. Studied in St. Pauls ( was 1 of the best then ... seems to have faded since)

In 1987 we moved to Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir. Dad was handling the Electrical transmission line setup between Udhampur & Kishtwar. As a result he would travel a lot & we spent quite a bit of time of our vacations in towns on this line ... Batot, Doda, Thathari & Kishtwar
Studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya.
Was a good period. Would have been much better had I been a little older, to remember more of the natural beauty that abounds in the place. Have fond memories of a picnic spot called Patni top

In 1989 we moved to Calcutta, actually Rishra to be precise, which is about 35 minutes away from Howrah (New Srerampore). We were living in the factory Campus for Jaya Shree Insulators. I studied in the school on campus - Vani Bharathi. The school was 5 minutes walk from our home. Again a lot of fond memories ... good friends .. great time with my sis Meeta. This was the 1st time in my life that I really started liking sports a lot. Badminton, Cricket, Football, table-tennis - I used to enjoy all the sports & always gave my best to try & win. This is where I learned to play & put my heart in the sports. I was about 10 then :)

In 1991 we moved to Jamshedpur. This was the best period of my childhood & I have vivid memories of a lot of times & people. As a result this stanza is going to be quite long ....

Starting with the entrance exam at Loyola, which I have no clue how I cleared. I could not converse in English at that point of time & I flunked in 5 out of 8 subject in 1st term exams in class 6. The 3 I passed were Hindi, Science & maths :). Worked hard to learn English & by the 3rd Term I was back to being in the top 20% of the class. Mind you I never was a topper .. being in the top 5 is as far as I got. Importane of studies, and how to learn are things I picked up at Loyola - my best school.
We stayed in an apartment complex called Ashiana in Adityapur. Made a lot of great friends. Niti- the tomboy, the best sportsperson in the colony. When I started at Ashiana she was a much better Badminton & Cricket player than I was. I learnt a lot, about Sports & life from her & she became a good friend.
I can go on writing about life in Jamshedpur & Ashiana. I would love to get in touch with a few friends whom I havent been able to stay in touch with ... Rishi, Sharad, Srikant, Vidya, Neha, Chandan bhaiya, Deepak bhaiya ... if any of you read this, do get in touch with me.

(I think I can write a small auto biography .. but I guess 26 isnt that old an age)

Fast forward 1994 we moved back to Rishra.
This time I studied in Don Bosco Bandel for my class 9 & 10 and then moved to Don Bosco Liluah for my XI & XII. Both the schools are about 25 minutes travel by local train from Rishra. 9th was adapting to the change, 10th was ICSE & working hard for that. By the time I was done with ICSE I had made up my mind that I want to get into an Engineering college. Class 11 & 12 was a lot of hard work. Day started at 4.30 to catch the train at 5 to get to my tuition. 7.30 start for School. 4pm get back from school change & off to tuition again. Somedays I would get back at 7, other days at 9. I missed sports the most & used to try hard to get an hour of badminton every few days in the winters.
To my & to a few of my teacher's surprise (Sir JP Roy, Mrs Sarkar & Mr Timir) I did not make it to the IITs or into the West Bengal JEE. My ICSE result was a mere 84%. ( I was dreaming of 93 odd & had applied to Pilani :) )
That was 1 of the lowest point in my life. A few good friends & Sir JP Roy convinced me to go & "have fun" in Bangalore but nonetheless do attempt CET. I wrote CET & ended up with a good rank.

1998 I joined PESIT & moved to Bangalore ...
There is just way too much to write .. I will put this off to another day ...
For those who have read through patiently ... I have 1 word ... jobless :)
More seriously .. I am glad to know that I did not bore you enough & that you had enough interest in my normal si life ...

Do leave me a comment if you liked reading this
(I am seriously considering collecting material for an auto biography :P )

I liked reading your biography, bro' but remember - if you have any startling revelations a la Gunter Grass about time spent as an RSS pracharak in some WB village then speak now or forever hold your peace :)

You mean ISC, I think. ICSE is standard X.

I did. But I want more anecdotes, less details, though they also help understanding quite a lot. Maybe you could have a living autobiography...something that you write throughout life...oh wait, i am saying that on eljay!

personal histories are a particular fascination for me...it is always interesting to know what a person writes about when s/he writes about life s/he has lived. there are so many beginnings and so many people and places...when one writes a personal history it tells more about the person in where they begin rather than what they tell you...

Dude that was like a prologue! I read it till the end and was expecting more ... It was very interesting, I guess I have a similar fragmented timeline like yours across states and countries, you remind me that I have to write one now!

Looking fwd for your 'expanded' biography...

Wow, will echo most of the other comments here, this was great, but just the appetiser if you will, waiting for the main course... You've certainly done a lot of travelling, have lived in the south pretty much all throughout, so have missed out on so much of India..

your 11th and 12th sounds brutal.. That uncertain period after 12th was certainly not fun for me either, bombed my 12th exams as well :-)

Reading this was such a dejavu.
XI and XII were the most difficult years in my life too. I had flunked 2 subjects in XIth, but topped XIIth. I had harboured one single dream of studying in BITS Pilani, my mum has her roots there. I still couldn't make it, because I didnt apply right. It was the lowest point academically for me. Wrong application! takes a while to get over it. PESIT happened incidentally, CET was like an exam written for the heck of it, with no preparation and no inclination. But that was the only choice that eventually worked out!
Liked reading your post!

Nice post. I am waiting for your autobiography. But seriously, you should also complete writing about your life in Bangalore.

PS: Pilani is good, but I didn't know that people dream about Pilani too :)

It was a nicely written overview :-)...
Reading this made me think about my years at school but when i was trying to recall, i realized, only once i stayed in one city for the longest period of time... and that is Bangalore :-)

But its nice to pen down your memories somewhere... it gives a feel good factor at times, when you see what you have achieved in life, how you achieved it...it may motivate you further.

I think, even i will try to write at least something about my life...
